Lungerersee
21st of April 2025, 1%. This marks the official start of the lake crossing challenge!
Thanks to my mom and my younger brother Paul for accompanying me on this first crossing.
I will hopefully come up with a structure over time how I write these blogposts, but here are couple facts about this crossing:
Lungerersee
It has three different orthographies: Lungerersee, Lungernsee and Lungerensee. That’s German for you.
Remember when I said the size of a lake is not static? Well Lungerersee is a perfect example. After being partially emptied out in the 18th century to make space for agriculture, water levels were raised again for a hydrolic plant. Also, apparently a murderer got inculpated because he left dead bodies in barrels at the bottom of the lake. However he did not think that the levels would drop in the winter, hence exposing striking evidence of his murder. Too bad.
The crossing
- I decided to simply cross through the pole of inaccessibility. There and back.
- The water temperature was around 10 degrees celcius and air temperature 15 🥶. I might let the waters warm up a little before attempting more crossings.
